I made a sad discovery recently. Walmart has done away with its fabric department. What was once the go-to place for polar fleece, remnants, and affordable notions has been replaced with Martha Stewart Craft Supplies.
What’s worse, my favorite fabric store shut their doors for good last year. That leaves Joann Fabrics and Crafts as my only local option. Joann’s is a big box store with aisles and aisles of beads, scrapbooking stuff, silk flowers, candles, and wedding accessories. In a sliver of space off to left is the fabric department. It’s a mighty limited selection, but I’m grateful for it.
What’s happening? Is sewing becoming a lost art?
